Talking About Automotive Electrical Systems

Hello, I am Terry. Welcome to my website exploring automotive electrical systems. The modern vehicle is filled with electronics that run the integral components and ensure passenger comfort, safety and satisfaction. The electronics are all operated by the onboard computer in some way or another. Each system may include a multitude of sensors that talk to the computer several times a second. These interconnected systems keep your vehicle running efficiently. The systems can also alert you to a developing problem. Please feel free to use the information on my site to better understand your own vehicle’s electrical systems and identify problems before it's too late.

3 Problems That Dirty Transmission Fluid Can Lead Too

Leonard White

It is important that you keep your transmission fluid full and clean. When your transmission fluid gets contaminated and dirty, it can lead to problems with your vehicle. Here are three problems that pop-up when your transmission fluid is dirty.

Problem #1: Slipping Gears

Slipping gears means that when you are driving, your vehicle changes from one gear to the next without you prompting it, either manually if you own a manual transmission or automatically by driving at a lower or higher speed. This action is referred to as "slipping gears" and can be very dangerous.

For example, if you are going fast and your vehicle suddenly switches to a lower gear, your vehicle could stall and stutter, which could easily lead to an accident if you were on the freeway in close traffic.

This generally happens if your transmission fluid is not building up enough pressure and thus is not able to flow smoothly. When this happens, your transmission fluid can't keep your gears in place and they slip.

Problem #2: Surging Forward

Another issue that can occur when your transmission fluid is dirty is your vehicle could surge, which means that your vehicle will increase the RPMs and speed when you are not pushing on the gas or trying to drive faster. This could cause numerous safety issues. For example, if you were slowing down at a light and your vehicle surged forward, you could rear-end someone or jut into oncoming traffic.

This issue is generally caused by dirty fluid that is not able to flow smoothly and correctly and keep your vehicle in the correct gear.

Problem #3: Trouble Shifting Gears

When you drive, your gears should switch from one level to the next without any issue. With an automatic transmission, your vehicle should operate so seamlessly that you barely even notice your vehicle going into a new gear. With a manual transmission, that means you should be able to smoothly go from one gear to the next without having to push your clutch in too far.

If your transmission fluid is not clean, it can compromise your vehicle's ability to switch gears smoothly.

If you encounter any of the three problems above, you need to have your transmission fluid flushed so that all the contaminates in your fluid that are causing issues can all be removed from your transmission. These large problems can all be solved by cleaning up your transmission fluid. This will help get things working right with your vehicle again.
