Three Things To Have Your Mechanic Check Before A Road Trip

Before heading out on a road trip, you may think to have your oil changed, but what other car maintenance steps should you take? Your mechanic can help you to get your vehicle prepped and ready for a safe journey. Here are just a few of the things you should do to keep your car ready to roll on your next road trip.
Check Your Tires
Your tires may be the most important things for you to check before traveling. A blown tire can put a halt to your trip and can even damage your vehicle. You'll want to make sure that your tires have sufficient air in them, and you may want to have your mechanic check the tread on each tire. You may find that the tread is worn down and that your tires may be bald in some places. In this case, you'll want to replace the tires before putting considerable miles on them. Don't forget to have your spare tire checked as well. Ensuring your spare tire doesn't have any holes or other problems will ensure you have a great backup plan should you get a flat.
Top Off Fluids
When you have your oil changed, you should have your fluids topped off as well. This would include your power steering fluid, antifreeze, and even your washer fluid. Proper fluid levels can affect everything from engine performance to your car's ability to travel a straight line, so make sure that your fluids are at the proper level and your motor oil is freshly changed before you hit the road.
Test Brakes
Whether you've heard a slight squealing sound coming from your brakes or everything seems to be working just fine, you should think about having your brakes tested. Your mechanic can inspect your brake pads and shoes to look for signs that they are worn down. If they are worn, this could impact their ability to stop your car when you need it. Be sure to tell your mechanic about any noises you may be hearing when you brake as well as any resistance you feel in your vehicle when you stop suddenly.
