Talking About Automotive Electrical Systems

Hello, I am Terry. Welcome to my website exploring automotive electrical systems. The modern vehicle is filled with electronics that run the integral components and ensure passenger comfort, safety and satisfaction. The electronics are all operated by the onboard computer in some way or another. Each system may include a multitude of sensors that talk to the computer several times a second. These interconnected systems keep your vehicle running efficiently. The systems can also alert you to a developing problem. Please feel free to use the information on my site to better understand your own vehicle’s electrical systems and identify problems before it's too late.

Repair the Driver's Side Door on Your Car if It Was Keyed

Leonard White

If the driver's side door on your car was keyed when you parked your automobile in a public location, remove visible scratches from the door's surface. Afterwards, clean the door with automotive detergent and apply touch-up primer, paint, and clear compound to the repaired areas. Once you have completed the project, your car's body will have a uniform appearance.

Materials

  • Emery cloth
  • Automotive detergent
  • Bucket of warm water
  • Soft-bristled scrub brush
  • Bottle of touch-up primer
  • Bottle of touch-up paint
  • Clear compound (for use on automobiles)
  • Chamois cloth

Lightly Sand the Scratched Areas

Move an emery cloth back and forth over the scratches in the door. Use consistent pressure while applying the tool to the metal surface. Once the door has a smooth surface, clean the whole door's exterior with soapy water that has been mixed with a small amount of automotive detergent. Remove dirty residue from the door's surface with a soft-bristled scrub brush. Rinse away the soapy solution that remains on the door' exterior with a hose. Wait for the metal's surface to dry.

Apply Touch-Up Primer And Paint

Shake a bottle of touch-up primer to mix its contents. Use the applicator brush that came with the primer to apply an even coating of primer over the portions of the door that were sanded in the previous step. Wait for the treated surfaces to dry before applying touch-up paint to them in the same manner. Wait for each coat of paint to dry thoroughly before adding an additional one. Apply as many coats as needed until the color of the fresh paint matches the paint that surrounds it.

Buff the Freshly Painted Surfaces to Provide the Door With a Uniform Appearance

Pour clear compound that is designed for use on automobiles onto a chamois cloth. Apply the side of the cloth that contains the compound directly against the newly painted spots on the door. Use small, circular motions as you move the cloth firmly over the fresh paint. The compound will assist with feathering the edges of the paint so that it blends in with the rest of the paint on the door.

You may need to add more compound to the cloth in order to treat each area that was painted. Once the door has a uniform appearance, use a clean part of the chamois cloth to wipe away any excess compound from the door's exterior.
